As distinctive as Esther Price’s Gold Box, so is the taste of our candies. The same personal care and commitment that makes these the finest candies anywhere all started with the same recipe that Esther Price herself perfected years ago.
It all began when Esther learned to make fudge in her home economics class. She was so excited, she ran home and asked her mother if she could make more. From that day forward, Esther’s passion was making candy. Esther would take chocolates to her co-workers at a department store in downtown Dayton, Ohio. After starting her family in 1926, these same co-workers encouraged her to continue making candy for them to buy. The word about Esther’s delicious candy spread and in no time she was selling it to department stores and businesses. Thus began what is now recognized as one of the finest candy producing operations in the world.
Esther’s ingenuity, perseverance and loving care made her chocolates famous. It was Esther’s belief that cream and butter make the difference and insisted on using only the finest ingredients available. To this day, her insistence on premium ingredients and freshness are unmistakable in every delicious bite. The Esther Price tradition of old-fashioned quality is also upheld by making all chocolates at a single location on Wayne Avenue in Dayton. To assure customer satisfaction, many chocolates are still made by hand.
