Harvest Foods began manufacturing high quality Oriental food products in 1982. Its owners, Chau and Khai Kha, are Chinese immigrants who brought to this country authentic recipes and tested expertise in the production of traditional Oriental food.
With energy and enthusiasm, they began manufacturing in the rear of their Asian Food store, an already thriving business, which they had opened earlier in San Francisco’s Richmond District, and which helped them launch this new endeavor. They converted some of their market’s storage space into a plant, secured U.S.D.A. approval, and began producing and packing their first products: Potstickers, Meatballs, and Flower rolls.
With workers stuffing and shaping the Potstickers in the traditional manner, Harvest Foods found an immediate market for its products in the numerous Asian markets and restaurants of the San Francisco Bay Area. Because of their authentic flavors, easy preparation, and attractive presentation, the products brought the company phenomenal success within the Asian community, to which most of its sales went in the first few years.
Harvest Foods soon outgrew its Richmond District facility. In 1987, Chau and Khai Kha moved across the bay to our present plant in Concord.
