Gills Onions is home to the largest fresh onion processing facility in the world. The 95,000 square foot operation includes 40,000 square feet of processing space. The heart of the operation, however, is its proprietary operating equipment. The design of this highly specialized machinery was a team effort with focus on improved efficiency, productivity as well as environmental sensitivity.
The plant operates five production lines with three peelers at each line. Because the complex schematics of the lines are design originals and unique compared to any other processing facility, the specialized system could never be duplicated.
The plant contains a high tech food safety lab, energy saving refrigeration and air systems, completely wash down/no maintenance floors and an innovative lighting system.
Gills Onions utilizes a sophisticated tracking system that allows the Quality Assurance Lab as well as the Sales Department to follow an onion from seed all the way to the customer’s door. The ability to access this kind of detailed information is unique in the industry.
Our customers receive the highest quality, US number one, yellow and red hybrid onions custom grown for Gills Onions by our sister company, Rio Farms. Our diversified farming operation has acreage throughout the state of California and Mexico, assuring a consistent supply of top quality onions, year round.
