Dobake, Inc. was founded in 1989 by two good friends with a 20 year history of success in the retail doughnut shop business in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their goal was to build a large wholesale doughnut bakery to service the Bay Area, selling product to restaurants and other foodservice outlets.
By 1994, Dobake had grown to be one of the Bay Area's leading fresh doughnut manufacturers with a distributor network delivering to over 500 locations. High-quality muffins were added to increase the product line. Muffins were sold individually wrapped and frozen under Dobake's Bakery New Orleans brand through convenience stores and vending machines throughout the West Coast. The company soon began contract packing and by 1996, Dobake's products were being distributed into over 15,000 locations nationwide.
In 1996, Tim Thompson joined as President and Dobake soon made significant gains in establishing itself as a viable supplier of pre-baked muffins to supermarket in-store bakeries. Whole and sliced loaf cakes, as well as other products, were quickly added to strengthen Dobake's penetration in the in-stores.
In 2002, Dobake, Inc. was sold to GESD Capital Partners, an investment group from San Francisco, whose principals have significant experience in the bakery industry. Within a short time, a new production facility was opened in Addison, Illinois to produce for our eastern customers and the corporate name was changed to Dobake Bakeries, Inc. to reflec
