Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Support Management and BAMS by responding to business needs through providing options for solutions, in the area of Technology, Operations, Engineering and Project Management. 

 

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • As Project Manager, be responsible for and manage, project cost, schedule and performance.
  • Gather packaging design details from Customers. Analyze the plants packaging capabilities and compare with the Customers needs.
  • Prepare and design process, people, and material flows for manufacturing requirements based on OSI group standards.
  • Report on status of project and follow-up on details of projects in process.
  • Design and engineer the scaling, forming, filling, sealing and cartoning of product as required.
  • Prepare and design layouts to reflect the flows, the logistic requirements including receiving, storing, shipping, office, administration and utility infrastructure.
  • Coordinate the assembly of information required to support CRF's (Capital Request for Funds) from BAMS, Operations, Finance and Engineering.
  • Guide corporate and plant purchasing in new packaging design for primary and secondary packaging.  Specify new materials and coordinate testing on existing and new packaging equipment.
  • Specify, obtain bids, and manage acquisition of processing, packaging and utilities equipment.
  • Partner with the Legal Department to make sure the equipment purchasing process meets all the technical, commercial and legal standards that are required by the business and OSI corporate policies.
  • Provide Technical Expertise to plant personnel in packaging troubleshooting.  This would include evaluation of materials and equipment interface analysis, vacuum and gas flush packaging, metal detection and check weighing, high-speed flexible film packaging systems, cartoning, case packing systems and packaging code dating technologies. 
  • Actively seek out technology solutions that will positively impact cost, quality, efficiency, and time for manufacturing.
  • Coordinate financial analysis of Project by working closely with BAMS and the finance resource.
  • Prepare, in partnership with quality control and R&D, package performance testing, i.e. shelf-life studies, residual oxygen testing, pressure testing and other.
  • Design and engineer case handling and distribution systems as needed.
  • Coordinate preparation of detailed design and drawings for buildings and site for new facilities and additions to existing.
  • Select, coordinate and manage consultants, contractors and mulit-dicipline engineers, such as civil, utilities, design and mechanical for project completion.
  • Work with plant management and technical personnel to establish, maintain, and improve upon the most efficient means of production.
  • Partner with the end users to develop and implement training programs for new lines that are implemented.
  • Establish preventative maintenance and spare parts program associated with projects assigned.
  • Partner with corporate purchasing in cost reduction initiatives in the packaging area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills
  • BS in Mechanical, Chemical or Packaging Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Sanitary Design Standards for the Meat and Dairy industries.
  • Basic knowledge of Finance and Capital Investment analysis.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in team environments and sell ideas to others.
  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint is required and Microsoft Project is a plus.
  • Spanish speaking ability is a plus. (Americas Zone)
Required Experience
  • More than 7 years of experience managing engineering projects, projects in excess of $1,000,000 are required.
  • Equipment and packaging development experience.
  • Construction management experience is required.
  • Project experience, on an international scope is a plus.
  • Presentation Experience.
