The Fresh Express Story
Fresh salads have come a long way since the first days of fresh Express during the Roaring Twenties. That was when one of our founders named Bruce Church, first shipped boxcars of iceburg lettuce-packed with ice-for a trip "back east."
All the way to main, as the train pulled into each stop, town folk would call out with excitement, "The iceburgs are coming, the iceburgs are coming!" This name would prove to be a long lasting one, as would America's love affair with fresh salads.
To meet this growing hunger for fresh salads, in 1989 Fresh Express created the very first "ready-to-eat" Bagged Garden Salad available in grocery stores nationwide. It has been this same pioneering expertise and dedication to freshness that has "greened up" family menus with winning new combinations of fresh salad every since.
