John Morrell & Co. was founded in England in 1827, and is
considered to be the oldest continuously operating meat manufacturer in
the U.S. In 2002 the company celebrated its 175th anniversary.
John Morrell & Co. is a wholly owned and independently managed
subsidiary of NYSE traded Smithfield Foods, Inc., (SFD) the largest
vertically integrated producer of processed meat and fresh pork in the
United States. With annual sales of approximately $2 billion, John
Morrell produces over 3,000 products, offering a wide variety of fresh
pork and processed meats. John Morrell's fresh pork products are
marketed across the U.S. and internationally. Processed meats include
hams, hot dogs, bacon, lunchmeats and smoked sausage. The Company
employs a total of over 6,700 people across the U.S.
John Morrell's corporate headquarters, located in Cincinnati, Ohio,
serves as base for the Company's executive, sales, marketing, finance,
and information services departments. The corporate office is home for
John Morrell's technical staff, including our research and development
center; a complete USDA certified pilot plant, and quality control
laboratory. John Morrell also has its own in-house graphic arts
department.
