In the 1970's and 80's, Martin's Famous Potato Roll products forged a
new category in the supermarket and established the gold standard for
potato roll taste and quality. Various competitors in recent years have
attempted to produce a "potato roll" that matches the taste, quality,
and freshness of Martin's, but if market share is a fair indicator, none
have measured up. Martin's was the number one brand of potato rolls on
the day they created the category, and they continue to dominate in the
markets where they have established full distribution.
Today, the plant in Chambersburg is a 223,500 sq. ft. state-of-the-art
bakery with continuous proofers, spiral coolers, automatic baggers, and
robotic packaging machines. Martin's produces a line of potato roll and
bread products that are delivered by a top-notch team of route
salespeople, independent wholesalers, and distributors to supermarkets
up and down the East Coast.
The company Lois and Lloyd founded in 1957 has gone through many changes
while keeping pace with its remarkable growth. The one thing that
hasn't changed, however, is an uncompromising dedication to quality. In
the words of Jim Martin, Lois and Lloyd's son and present owner, "We've
been too hard-headed to cut any corners in over 40 years of baking the
best potato rolls and bread we know how. Why give up on honest goodness
now? We refuse!"
The entire Martin's family and the many employees at Martin's Famous
Pastry Shoppe, Inc., are all thankful for the success of the company and
look forward to serving new customers in the future.
