Not too far down the road from downtown Athens, you can smell
the aroma of fresh baked cakes coming from Benson's Old Home Kitchens, located
in Bogart. We have built our reputation over the years by producing quality
products that provide great value to our consumers.
Beginning as a bread bakery
in 1918, it was Mr. H. E. Benson who added fruit cake to the Benson’s product
line in the early 1950's. As a member of the Athens, Georgia, Jaycees in 1953,
Mr. Benson filled a need for the club to have a product they could sell to
raise funds. It worked in Athens and he believed it could work in other
communities as well. The Benson’s name became well-known for quality fruit
cakes, distributed throughout the nation from our family bakery in Bogart. In
the mid-1960’s summer sales folks visited virtually every state making sales
calls. As the Benson's fruit cake became popular through the fundraising efforts
of organizations across the United States, opportunities arose to make them
available in the retail market. Benson's now produces a wide variety of fruit
cakes for many of the better retail grocery chains and retailers across the
country.
While fruit cake was
our mainstay for many years, the product line has expanded with great success.
Benson’s offers a full line of thaw and sell products which includes varieties
of Angel Food Cakes, Pound Cakes, Quick Breads, Crème Cakes, and Mini Bundt Cakes.
Producing our products with quality ingredients ensures that our customers can
offer quality and consistency that is difficult to achieve with the labor
challenges faced by the in-store-bakery of today.
