Job Description
SUMMARY A leading flavor company seeks an experienced R&D Director to provide direction and insight for their growing beverage business unit.
This manager provides leadership and management of the product solutions process and technical team for assigned Business Unit. Serves as the subject matter expert in assigned market and builds the reputation of the International technical team in the industry. Acts as the filter on project opportunities identifying profitable projects from unprofitable ones. Possesses overall responsibility for technical approval hit-rate. Selects and develops a staff of industry-recognized experts in assigned field. Works closely with customers and the account executives with high level personal contact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develops and demonstrates technical solutions in support of Account Executives to execute specific account strategies to achieve revenue growth objectives and maximize profitability. Manage all aspects of projects by working closely with Business Unit Management and Account Executives to prioritize projects and assign appropriate resources to complete project requirements. Provides optimistic, enthusiastic, innovative leadership to the Business Unit Technical Team. Facilitates teamwork within the Business Unit to provide technical solutions that exceeds customer’s expectations for quality and service. Develop and implement proactive customer technical relationship building strategies including regular personal contact. Leverage successful technologies and/or prototypes to as many applicable customers as possible. Travel with Account Executives to specific accounts to present information, prototypes and finished applications. Evaluate, train and mentor direct reports within Business Unit Team. Contribute to policy development and process improvement within the assigned Business Unit. Assumes personal responsibility to “close” the technical sales process. Develops a solid relationship with customers and allied industry leaders as well as government agencies, officials, and any other entities that may positively impact the growth of the Business Unit. Is responsible for closing all projects with the customer (to include projects we win as well as those we lose to competition). Creates sample library and standard sample list. Interfaces with technology department to provide direction on future development of needed technical tools. Closes sample orders with customers. Finds additional customer applications for existing flavor library. Understands winning technical protocols and interprets same to the team.
