Job Description
SUMMARY Maintenance Mechanics perform skilled work in the operation, preventative maintenance, repair, and minor construction of structures and equipment within a further processed environment.

CONNECTION TO MISSION This position will use innovative thinking skills to improve cost control measures while ensuring production machinery is reliable and in good working order. In doing so this employee will increase production tonnage while providing a safe work environment for all employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following: The frequency of the following activities may vary according to the requirements of the job task assigned.

1. Perform preventative maintenance as scheduled 2. Complete daily log sheets 3. Continually be proactive in recognizing and reporting any unsafe conditions 4. Conduct daily general tours through assigned work area to identify any damaged, worn, or unsafe equipment 5. Must follow all company and/or maintenance GMP’s 6. Maintenance employees must be punctual while allowing for a flexible schedule 7. Be willing to conduct on-the-job training for other maintenance employees 8. Must complete annual testing requirements 9. Be mindful and supportive of Food Safety and quality measures at all times 10. Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Does not supervise any employees.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

VERBAL/WRITTEN SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and give clear instructions. Ability to spell correctly. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to use phone in a polite and professional manner.

INFORMATION SYSTEM SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Basic understanding of computer hardware and Microsoft Windows environments. Ability to use phone to make, answer, hold, and transfer calls and use voice mail. Ability to learn routine and job specific Ross and computer commands and functions. Ability to demonstrate basic computer abilities including storage and retrieval of data, basic word processing and spreadsheet usage skills and use of e-mail. REASONING/DECISION MAKING SKILLS Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to use initiative to recognize problems and suggest possible solutions. Must seek approval of supervisor before implementing solution.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must sit, climb or balance and taste or smell 0-33% of the time. The employee must stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear 34-66% of the time. This position requires that the employee lift or move up to 75 pounds 0-33% of the time and lift or move up to 50 pounds 34-66% of the time.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally must work in high, precarious places, be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and/or caustic chemicals. The employee will frequently work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat, and vibration. The employee will regularly work near moving mechanical parts, and have a risk of electrical shock. Third shift employee’s will frequently be exposed to caustic chemicals and wet or humid conditions.
