Cargill Value Added Meats-Foodservice has an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Accountant/Supervisor I at our new Brampton facility, outside Toronto. The successful candidate will be helping with system data set up, developing of procedures, etc. for a newly-operating facility. This position is responsible for the supervision of day-to-day cost & financial accounting activities. This person provides daily support in analysis and problem solving with the accounting team, facility managers, and customer. This position is a very important link between the location management team and other locations. As such, the Senior Accountant/Supervisor I will have a very good knowledge of processes linked to production. The successful candidate will be a leading participant in project work in the standard cost accounting processes (such as cost analysis, product costing, standard pricing and variance analysis), and the monitoring and improvement of internal processes and controls. The holder of this position will work closely with product management, supply chain management, and production management to monitor and review yield reports and ensure accurate standards in the system. The month end close will also fall under the responsibility of this position. Financial reports including weekly P & L’s are issued under the supervision of the Senior Accountant in a timely & accurate manner & in accordance with general accounting principles and Cargill values & beliefs. Principal Accountabilities: This person will be responsible for the proper supervision of the costing and financial accounting areas. This includes training, sufficient cross training, and mentoring/coaching of members of the accounting team as assigned. Establishing control procedures ensuring accurate valuation of materials inventories through the revaluation process. Updating and maintenance of Production Models in accordance with approved procedures. Overseeing the review of yields on a daily basis, driving problem solving interaction with production superintendents to determine causes of variances below/above threshold limits. Overseeing the preparation of the weekly P & L along with associated reconciliations. Ensuring monthly & quarterly close processes are performed on a timely and accurate basis. Ensuring balance sheet accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis. Overseeing the accuracy of interfaces from sales & purchasing/production systems to the financial system. Overseeing the management of the CIP account and capitalization of capital expenditures. Overseeing accounts receivables & accounts payables. Overseeing proper data/document retention. Special projects and other duties as assigned
