Job Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE –
Leads all Distribution and Transportation planning and strategic activities. Coordinates product flow from Plant to Depot and Plant- to- Plant, utilizing proper Transportation scheduling that is in compliance with DOT regulations
PRINCIPAL ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Determines the necessary Manpower needed in the Distribution Department according to volume levels Tracks Manpower and develops programs to insure labor is flexing to volume levels Determines the Transportation Schedules for all runs to Depots and Sister Plants Identifies the opportunities for capturing Transportation synergies between Depots and Sister Plants Monitors Drivers Logs on a daily basis to insure that the Drivers are in compliance according to DOT regulations Identifies the Unaccounted For issues between Production, Distribution, Retail and Sales Implements Tracking of Unaccounted For between Production, Distribution, Retail and Sales Coordinates meetings between Production, Distribution, Retail and Sales, to identify and correct the Unaccounted For issues Implements tracking of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) from Plant to Depot and Plant-to-Plant Responsible for implementing and tracking Safety programs with the Distribution and Transportation departments Develop and maintain a productive staff by hiring, training, and professional development; match the skill and background of associates to the work required; apply sound communication and motivational techniques, to supervise, counsel, and discipline subordinates; and implement performance evaluation systems Directs and guides employees on Good Manufacturing Programs (GMP) Responsible for communicating with Labor and Legal with Union negotiations Responsible for understanding and following the contracts that were determined and agreed upon between the company and the local unions
Requirements
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and/or on-the-job experience needed
Bachelor’s degree (Business, Engineering, or Logistics) required or equivalent Distribution/ Transportation experience. (Minimum of 5 years experience in Distribution/Transportation, product flow analysis, or network analysis)
Industry-specific knowledge, skills & abilities needed Bakery Industry – Experienced in Food environment desired Functional/Job-Related knowledge, skills & abilities needed Direct and Supervise procedures and processes to ensure most economical utilization Continuous Process Improvement – Assist in developing process and procedures Strategic and Tactical Planning – Prioritize and manage strategic and tactical Transportation initiatives and decision making activities. Work with management to develop a long-term strategy and anticipate trends accurately Data Gathering and Analysis – Analyze and draws insight from detailed level analysis. (Locations, Mileage, Building costs, Production volume, Sales volume and promotions.) Identifies hidden problems and trends and looks beyond the obvious in solutions and answers Work Planning, Organization and Execution Fact-based Decision Analysis and Negotiation – experience with fact based decision analysis Management experience needed Project Management – Recommends programs to improve the functions within the organization; Provide program management support; Lead cross-functional teams, including outside consultants where required

Written and Oral communication – Effectively able to convey and present findings and direction to management and business colleagues both orally and in written format Business Relationships – Interface with organization entities to resolve issues; work with other department managers to resolve issues; influence and develop effective working relationships with management and colleagues
