Job Description
Position Purpose: Participate as a member of the Quality and Technical Services Team to assure the safety and quality of corporate brand products. Become a recognized resource within the company for all issues related to product quality and vendor requirements. Assist in developing and maintaining various Quality Assurance Team databases with all pertinent information as well as QA programs aimed at improving product quality, safety and consistency. Act as a regulatory liaison between Giant Eagle and corporate brand vendors.
Job Functions: Essential: Ensure vendors conform to Giant Eagle Quality Assurance Vendor Requirements. Ensure vendors are following all GMP’s, SOP’s, HACCP programs and other various safety and quality programs. Evaluate product specifications and third party facility audits to validate products and suppliers. Communicate with vendors to resolve issues or concerns regarding regulations, quality, food safety, customer incidents, and food defense for corporate brand products. Maintain and manage all supplier documentation utilizing web-based applications and internal databases for specified category assignments. Assist in the development, implementation and administration of corporate brand QA and food safety operational procedures, policies, programs, and systems. Aid in the development of finished product specifications with input from vendors. Provide expertise on local, state and federal regulations for food safety and labeling of assigned food products. Advise business leaders on current food safety, regulatory and quality issues.
Additional: Assist in the monitoring and execution of the Sensory Department’s corporate brand food quality program as needed. Assist in the company’s sourcing initiative where require Perform audits driven by vendor audit selection protocol ensuring vendors comply with Giant Eagle vendor requirements. Communicate effectively with other teams within the QTS department, including Product Development, Sensory, Packaging, and Retail Food Safety.
Education and Experience Essential: Bachelor’s degree in food science, product development, engineering, scientific discipline or equivalent experience required. 2-5 years experience in product safety, quality and/or regulatory affairs.
Desired: Food Manufacturing quality assurance or quality control experience a plus. Previous experience of working with international suppliers a plus
