Job Description
Job Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes a high level of specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, Information Resources, Manufacturing, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support department and/or function objectives. Generally works with considerable independence, developing operating plans and related operational tasks for own department in alignment with broader company objectives.

Specific Expected Contributions

  • Overall design and implementation of innovative process equipment and methods, in support of strategic technology platform development projects.
  • Coordinates launch of new or revised products and maintains version control of engineering documents.
  • Ability to work independently with input from a variety of sources including the global technology, marketing, sales and service organizations as well as with converting customers and end users to recommend, build, and implement machinery meeting specification and quality standards.
  • Working with third party manufacturing companies, design, develop and document parts and equipment for high speed, high volume machines. This includes the creation and management of prototype equipment and includes, but is not limited to, the creation of top-level assembly drawings, associated bills of materials, sub-assembly drawings, component (spec/source) drawings, schematics, solid models, etc.
  • Develop and introduce innovative new approaches to meet emerging machine performance requirements.
  • Experience with writing, reviewing, and working with patents, equipment specifications, and performance testing criteria.
  • Actively manage multiple projects and effectively communicate status as required by the business.
  • Design and document product related tooling (such as dies, etc.).
  • Design, document, manage, and fabricate prototypes.
  • Perform design verifications and validation steps to prove out design.
  • Lead Design Review sessions with suppliers, customers and stakeholders.
  • Manage and track capital budgets associated with key development projects.
  • Prioritization and scheduling of competing global project work.
  • Provide daily leadership to instill and reinforce an injury-free workplace and environmental compliance.
  • Develop and Maintain SOP's.
  • Reverse engineer parts, as required, to improve performance and control price and delivery.
  • Maintain strong, ongoing alignment and interface with marketing, operations, sales, and technology functions to understand, integrate, and influence the direction of the program with respect to both short term and long term business strategies.
  • Key resource in implementing new processes that drive differentiation, value, and productivity.
  • Ensure technical excellence by sharing best practices through presentations and mentoring/training sessions with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct form/fit feasibility studies on new product concepts and engineering challenges/goals.
  • Addressing product design issues with respect to tooling and manufacturing with other engineering staff as required per assignment.
  • Communicating orally and in writing ideas, concepts, issues and opportunities as required per assignment.
  • Maintaining accuracy of electronic drawing files, (part files, drawings and assemblies) assuring control files always represent latest versions of new product development projects and obsolete files are handled accordingly.
  • Recommends design tools to improve design efficiency and productivity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, Job duties are subject to change as directed by management.
  • Ability to make necessary calculations using engineering principles to design and develop equipment as it relates to food processing equipment (extractors, finishers, etc.).
  • Make recommendations on design changes for economics, performance, quality enhancement and production issues.
Specific Candidate Profile

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 10 years work experience with engineering principles, food processing equipment, automation, materials handling equipment or related machine design.
  • Demonstrated experience managing SG&A budget, scheduling, workload balancing, and effectively creating a streamlined workflow process with appropriate surge capacity to meet ongoing business needs.
  • High level of competence with information systems and manufacturing applications.
  • Some Domestic and International travel required.
  • Experience using 3D CAD modeling system / SolidWorks, AutoCad 3D, AutoDesk Inventor.
  • Experience using simulation software.
