Job Description
The J. M. Smucker Company, continually ranked by Fortune magazine as one of "The 100 Best Companies to Work for in America," has an immediate opening for a Manager, Culinary College on their corporate public relations and marketing services team. This individual will be the central resource for training and development of personnel and key customers on JMS products to help solidify our reputation as industry leaders. The cornerstone training program, “Baking University”, is designed to teach content knowledge about flour, cornmeal and mixes; provide experiential training with hands-on baking opportunities in the kitchen; and explore best practices in “branding” the sales call.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Develop and Conduct Training Programs: maintain and enhance current “Baking University” program • Identify new knowledge gaps and design specific classes to meet those needs • Document current product information and develop and maintain MySmucker website • Develop additional training materials including recipes, instructional DVD’s and notebooks • Maintain kitchen/teaching facility • Manage part-time assistant to help prepare for classes • Develop and Maintain Resource Library: work with Consumer Research as well as on own to identify trends; develop resource library and serve as “go-to” person for relevant information. • Develop demo protocol/procedures/program for JM Smucker Company Store & Café. Assist in special events when needed. • Assist Consumer Test Kitchen on project-by-project basis. Offer cooking/baking expertise; assist in recipe development and testing; assist in cook booklet development from concept to proofreading. • Assist in special projects as they arise (Board of Director’s meetings, product cuttings etc.) • Manage the culinary college budget
SELECTION CRITERIA Education • Four-year college degree, preferably in food related field (Culinary school, food science, nutrition etc). Experience • Previous teaching/training experience (food-related experience a plus) • Significant level of experience with cooking and baking…must have passion for being in the kitchen Other • Strong teaching skills with ability to communicate “technical” information to a “non-technical” audience • Good technical and ingredient knowledge (or ability to learn quickly) • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Excellent organizational and time management skills • Strong interpersonal skills • Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and at varying skill levels • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Ability to work well under pressure and effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously • High energy and enthusiasm • Positive attitude and “can-do” mentality
