Job Description
Sweetener Development Scientist
Experience: Minimum 3 years in product development in one or more of the following areas: • Beverages (carbonated and juice based) • Confectionary Responsibilities: Promote Company’s technical leadership position in food ingredients, including healthy and reduced calorie food ingredients. These include carbohydrate-based sweeteners, food stabilizers, sucralose, polydextrose and maltodextrin. Primary functions to include product development in a multi-functional team environment by providing expertise in the fundamentals of the food or beverage systems, synergies, flavor/ingredient interactions, cost optimization and customer needs and taking these product concepts from the bench through commercial scale-up.
Specialized Knowledge: Scale-up and commercialization experience in Food or beverages with developed skills in one or more of the following areas: • chemistry and application of carbohydrates especially starch based • understanding of reduced calorie food ingredients including high intensity sweeteners • Food/ Beverage processing experience • Experience in confectionary development • Use of bulking agents, flavor potentiators, texturizing agents • Sensory evaluation procedures • Project management experience • Statistical product/process design and optimization or process kinetics
Education: MS/PhD in Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Food Chemistry or related field preferred with three to five years experience Characteristics: • Willing to travel 20-25% of time • Team player • Good oral and written communication skills • Customer satisfaction aptitude/attitude • High energy level • Self motivated • Good problem solving skills • Ability to build good relationships with internal peers, sales and marketing and customers • Creative, innovative • Customer presence
