Job Description
Overview FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION The incumbent will support Gum and Confections Process Development Engineering initiatives by participating in the development and modification of new and existing Wrigley Gum & Confection Processes worldwide, from design through pilot plant and pilot scale through production startup. Candidate will initiate complex programs on existing formulations and installations; identify problem areas, patentable and efficiency opportunities; use designed experiments to solve problems, improve manufacturability of current products, and reduce waste ultimately reducing overall cost. This candidate should have the capability to develop P&ID's and manage the work using project management tools.
DIMENSIONS This Innovation Process Engineer position is working with the Process, Equipment & Technology Team.
Responsibilities 1. Create high-level, inventive ideas in gum and confectionary processes engineering, material handling, and facilities to lead high quality products, improvements and processing opportunities. Carry out the initial feasibility studies. 2. Lead the development and modification of new and existing Wrigley processes from concept through bench top, pilot plant and production start up. Write manufacturing procedures, specifications and develop P&ID's; participate in HACCP planning and provide manufacturing locations all process documentation necessary to provide a best in class process in accordance with Wrigley standards. Work in close collaboration with product developers, new product launch team, process engineers, controls engineers, quality staff and Supply Chain team 3. Conduct and supervise laboratory and pilot plant work in accordance with internal safety and sanitary guidelines. 4. Provide technical leadership to personnel both inside and outside the department during design, assembly, and initial testing stages and follows-up on installations during production runs to improve or modify as needed. 5. Develop novel solutions to complex manufacturing problems. Identify proprietary and patent opportunities to improve Wrigley's competitive advantage in the marketplace. Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information at all times. Ensure personal laboratory notebook is kept in accordance with company guidelines and policy. 6. Assist team in effectively responding to changing conditions and priorities. Review unusual or questionable aspects of engineering projects and resolves the engineering challenges and issues. 7. Coordinate in network technology transfers to manufacturing worldwide. Check out the final installation and commission the systems. Travel to plant and co-manufacturing locations as project work requires. 8. Team player who contributes to a positive work environment, taking ownership and displaying passion for project work. Mentor to other process engineers in both design of innovative processes and personal career development 9. Enhance Engineering and Gum technical skill sets through internal and external training and study. Share knowledge by mentoring peers in area of expertise as required 10. Keep abreast of advanced confectionary equipment available in the industry.
Requirements 1. BS Degree in Chemical Engineering; Master's degree preferred. 2. 7+ years experience in developing gum, confectionery or allied industries. 3. Demonstrate understanding of lab, pilot plant and food safety and sanitary guidelines.
