Job Description
Position(s): Director, Dairy Commodity Trading

Location: Kansas City, MO

Reports To: Vice President, Economics and Risk Management



Position Purpose:
Dairy Farmers of America’s risk management team has an exciting position open that will provide a person with challenging and rewarding growth opportunities

DFA’s Dairy Risk Management Service’s business is divided into two segments. One is a dairy-farmer member forward contracting desk. The second segment, for which there is a position opening, is the milk price risk management desk for DFA’s manufacturing customers and corporately-owned plants.

The position will be responsible for all trading and business aspects of the commercial plant desk. The person in this position will meet with DFA’s commercial clients to listen to their needs, identify program opportunities, and develop innovative risk management hedges, as well as, among other responsibilities, take orders, place trades and assure accurate accounting of all trades. In addition to DFA, the single largest commercial client, customers include Fortune 500 companies and other leading dairy businesses across the US.

Responsibilities:
Plants and Commercial Client trading desk:
Accurately take orders.
Execute verbal & electronic transactions of future/options at the CME or via third party Swaps.
Record all verbal & electronic transaction on DFA electronic platform for each account.
Perform reconciliation functions.
Generate confirmations on daily transaction volume.
Maintain CME & DFA positions on daily and monthly basis.
Provide periodic reports, as necessary to audit, accounting, finance and DRMS business unit leader.
Maintain Master Procedure Audit Manual for internal audits.
Maintaining and developing relationships with DFA plants and commercial clients to enable customer retention, volume growth and maximum use of DRMS programs.
Be responsible for the maintenance of templates, calculators and other tools that enable hedging of inputs.
Develop and implement improved processes such as better use of technology in the day-to-day operation of the program.
Perform all other duties as necessary for a successful program.
Support trading desk for Member Forward Contracting Programs by performing all necessary functions as needed.
Listen to client base to understand and identify their needs.
Assist in developing and refining DRMS programs for members and plants.
Assist in on-going analysis of DRMS fees, revenues, member usage and education.
Assist in promoting DRMS programs and educating members and plants about DRMS programs.
Keep up-to-date on market conditions & be able to accurately translate information to plants, commercial clients and membership to allow good decision-making by client base.
Be responsible for assuring that:
DRMS information for new master agreement packets and website information is maintained.
DRMS membership distribution database is maintained.
Historical futures files are updated, daily.
Periodic DRMS communications such as Monthly Market Recap, Monthly Supply/Demand Update & Weekly Pricing Update are distributed.
Work closely with marketing group on updating files for monthly dairy reports to allow for a better understanding of market conditions & fundamentals.
Responsible for contributing to daily DFA Today publication.
Contribute articles/information for other member publications throughout DFA
Quarterly, review Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. Commodities Compliance Manual.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required:
Prior experience in agricultural commodity trading.
Strong dairy industry knowledge.
Strong oral and written communication skills – ability to effectively exchange ideas and information; demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of management and staff
Self-motivated and results-oriented, with proven proclivity for action; able to translate broad general strategies to actionable items; able to balance careful planning and preparation with continuous progress towards completion of goals.
Excellent skills in Excel, Powerpoint, Word & others such as databases

Education Required:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college, preferably in business or agriculture.

Travel Required:
Up to 30%
