Job Description

The function of the Process Safety Coordinator/Engineer is to help the plant comply with federal, state and local regulations regarding the safety of the plant ammonia refrigeration system. Compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and EPA 40 CFR 68 are the two primary federal codes that must be followed. In order to comply with these the coordinator:

Keeps track of required documentation like process hazard analyses, operating procedures, drawings, flow diagrams, process safety information, training schedules and records, vessel relief requirements and safety valve specifications, etc. Documentation has specified retention time frames per the laws. Old records are periodically reviewed and purged.

Developing and conducting training for new personnel and refresher training for current personnel.

Working with personnel to annually review operating procedures and revising procedures as required by time or changes.

Processing change requests through the management of change process, ensuring complete documentation and closure for all ammonia system changes. This is done by revising drawings, maps, procedures, flow diagrams, safety relief valve info, etc.

Conducting and leading a team for process hazard analyses and tracking all action items to closure while providing a paper trail to prove actions were completed.

Doing safety inspections of contractors and ensuring that contractors that work on or around the ammonia system are qualified and have trained personnel.

Primary participant in the periodic process safety system audit. Working with the auditor to provide information to demonstrate the compliance of out program with the laws. Must follow up on and document to full closure any noted items from the audits.

Working as a design consultant for projects. Provide assistance and information to engineering firms for project design, implementation and start up. Included are drawing info, valve tag assignments, scheduling of hazard analyses and reviews, safety and operational input, start up assistance, training, procedure revision, punch list follow up, etc.

Software's used for program management: MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Primatech PHA Works, Microstation, Falcon Database, Maximo, Brady Pipe Labels, Skilbase.

Process Engineer

Assist with resolution of Utilities Department problems and projects. Troubleshooting problems and developing projects or plans to address findings. Requires knowledge of steam and condensate systems, compressed air systems, carbon dioxide collection and distribution systems, dehumidification systems, water supply and filtration systems, waste water handling, anaerobic digester operation, fire protection systems, glycol and ammonia refrigeration systems, comfort heating and cooling systems, etc.

Design projects, obtain competitive bids, award contracts, follow construction and start up, provide training for personnel.

Knowledge of Microstation or CAD systems is needed.

BS in Engineering or related field with minimum 3 years works experience in manufacturing engineering and/or engineering project management
