Job Description
A vegetable seedling nursery located in the Central Valley of California is seeking a General Manager. The current operation is approximately 10 acres of greenhouses and 9 acres of outdoor growing areas which grows +/- 200 million seedlings annually. The following is a list of responsibilities that the ideal candidate will be responsible for:

Operations:

  • Daily oversight of all production.
  • Purchasing of critical raw materials.
  • Maintaining adherence to environmental, safety and sanitary laws and regulations.
  • Develop and promote company wide organization system.
  • Development and monitoring of human resource policy.
  • In conjunction with the sales force and Board of Directors, determine the commercial policy in terms of prices, payment terms, promotion, etc.
  • Responsible for the review and approval of all sales contracts.

    Financial

  • Preparation of economic and financial budgets for approval by Board of Directors.
  • Analyze and present strategy and actions necessary to achieve economic and financial targets to Board of Directors.
  • Periodical financial reporting to Board of Directors.
  • Manage investment programs.
  • Manage bank relations.
  • Manage customer credit, collections, and legal procedures for non-payment.

    Quality Control

  • Manage and document outgoing product quality.
  • Work with sales forces on solving quality issues that arise from time to time.

    Sales

  • Manage and direct the internal sales force.
  • Manage relations and communications with external sales alliance.
  • Develop and implement Public Relations strategy.
  • Product Development.

    Education

  • Four-year degree in business, agriculture or other related field required.

    Experience

  • 5-7 years management experience required.
  • Agricultural experience preferred.
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred.
  • Knowledge of greenhouses business preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting required.

    Computer Skills

  • Must be proficient in Word and Excel.

    Personal Characteristics

  • The ideal candidate must be diligent and hardworking.
  • Good communication skills are essential as the candidate will be working with a wide cross-section of people.
