Job Description

We invite applications for the position of Quality Assurance Team Leader. As a Quality Assurance Team Leader for Hill's start-up dry food manufacturing facility in Emporia, KS, you will lead the Quality Assurance Team to improve plant quality as they support Operations and Manufacturing Services in assuring company quality standards are met. You will be responsible for quality analytical testing, continuous improvement, training and standardization, food safety compliance and communication for this state of the art facility.

Responsibilities for this position include:

Leads the Quality Assurance Team’s development through coaching, performance management, goal setting, and leading by example daily activity applying High Performance Work Systems (self-managing) principles.

Accountable and responsible for meeting or exceeding plant’s safety and quality KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).

Ensure that only product that meets Micro and Analytical specifications is released. Manages the release or rejection of raw ingredients, work-in-process, and finished goods.

Manages overall analytical and microbiology lab programs, including processes, testing, and hold/release.

Manages microbial sampling plan.

Reports and summarizes results daily. Initiates corrective action as needed. Graphs, reports, and posts microbial results.

Ensures compliance to official lab methods, calibration of analytical and microbiology equipment, preventative maintenance, check samples, and management of library samples.

Conducts formal Quality Standards and internal/external systems audits on the analytical & micro lab and implements changes to close any gaps, and keep quality team informed about progress and potential risks.

Responsible for Specification Management including ingredient specifications, finished product formulas and specifications, and processing specifications.

Troubleshoots quality issues and oversees continuous improvement for raw materials, finished product quality, and testing requirements.

Assists and supports HACCP program in the facility.

Manages plant quality SOPs and document control.

Assists with execution and follow up of regulatory, internal, and external audits (i.e. FDA, USDA, state, AIB, Corporate, etc).

Resource for the suppliers/vendors certification process. Manages Statisical Process Control (SPC) plan.

Liaisons with the Pet Nutrition Center and MET for the commissioning of new diets and formula changes to prepare for manufacture within the plant.

Serves as liaison between quality assurance and key stakeholders responsible for role modeling the CP Values and

Principles of Managing with Respect.

Other job functions as assigned.

Basic Qualifications: BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science or other related field

Minimum of three years manufacturing experience

Minimum of three years supervisory experience

Minimum of three years laboratory experience outside of an academic setting

Strong knowledge of Chemical Analyses, Quality Systems and

Documentation and Statistical Process Controls

Excellent computer skills, including email, spreadsheet, and data base managment

Preferred Qualfications:

Demonstrated performance of project management and time management skills

Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

SAP Experience

Auditing and Compliance Process

Vendor Certification

Food Plant Manufacturing Processes

American Society for Quality certification as CQT, CQM, or CQE
