Job Description
SUMMARY This person will be of such caliber and experience that they will provide the necessary strength and confidence to perform and/or manage the core QA/QC responsibilities at all locations. This position provides input and assistance to numerous other departments, contributes independent thoughts and proposals for improvement within the organization, and provides a solid QA/QC base for success and growth in for the company as a whole. Due to the nature of the work, this individual will be required to travel between plants in Santa Rosa as well as travel to other plant locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Manages activities of Raw Materials Supervisors at all Amy’s facilities. • Provides effective and timely training, guidance, motivation, corrective action and performance reviews to Raw Materials Supervisors; communicates expectations, objectives and provides feedback on a regular basis. • Coordinates resolution of problems that arise as a result of observations and product testing. • Attends raw material processing runs to assure Amy’s specification compliance or to learn more about processor abilities. • Oversees placement of raw materials on hold and coordinates final disposition determinations. Initiates release from hold and/or approval of donation/disposal in a timely manner. • Works with Warehouse, Manufacturing, Information Services and Planning personnel to develop and implement procedures for handling, storage, labeling and lot tracking of raw materials. • Works with R&D, Manufacturing and Sourcing personnel to screen new ingredients and qualify new suppliers using basic screening procedures and evaluations in finished products. • Oversees usage of materials on Special Handling, assures appropriate labeling of materials, communication of required handling, routing of materials to correct Manufacturing Orders. • Oversees organization and filing of all documentation regarding raw materials. • Works closely with Sourcing, R&D, Tech Service and suppliers to develop and maintain specifications for raw materials. • Interacts with suppliers to assure clear communication of Amy’s requirements, advise problems with quality, labeling, handling, etc. of raw materials and assist with improvement in the quality of items provided to Amy’s when needed. Interactions may involve visits, meetings, phone calls and/or letters. • Interacts with warehouses to assure raw materials are appropriately maintained and that damage or product problems are reported and dealt with in a timely manner. • Prepares reports which summarize data obtained from QA evaluations and makes conclusions that will assist in improving product quality. • Completes activities with appropriate urgency. • Monitors Good Manufacturing Practices of all individuals and practices in plant and warehouse as well as completing inspections at suppliers manufacturing facilities and outside warehouses; advises infractions to supervisor, supplier or service provider as appropriate. • Serves as primary contact for pest control service for all Amy’s facilities. Reviews service reports and communicates required corrective action within Amy’s. Reports issues to pest control service and coordinates resolution activities. • Responsible for new supplier ingredient testing, evaluation and follow-up. • Performs special projects as required

QUALIFICATIONS Required: • Bachelor's degree in Food Science and Technology with a concentration in QA/QC; or a degree in a related Life Science from a four-year college or university and five years experience and/or training in QA/QC; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Minimum of 5 years of technical experience with food and food-related products (including food laws and regulations) within a QA/QC environment. • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience. • Exceptional interpersonal and assertiveness skills, necessary to maintain effective and cordial working relationships while enduring the pressure of being a person whose foremost responsibility is quality. • Excellent communication skills; ability to relate to all internal levels as well as interface with suppliers and government on a technical level. • Team player. • Computer literate; Windows experience necessary. • Detail oriented. • Reliable/Dependable.

Preferred: • Product formulation and food production scale-up experience in a technical capacity. • Membership in IFT, ASQ. • Project Management experience. • Experience with other platforms (older versions of Windows, DOS). • Experience working with a live mainframe situation. • Valid US Driver’s License
