JOB DESCRIPTION:
JOB DESCRIPTION: Position is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the logistics function within Ralcorp Frozen Bakery Products. Major areas of responsibility include Transportation Management, Warehouse Management, Financial reporting and analysis (of Logistics expense), and development and implementation of the Logistics network and staff. Successful execution should result in the logistics function becoming a strategic advantage within the organization and to our customers.
JOB DUTIES:
Manage substantial Transportation and Warehousing budget for Ralcorp Frozen Bakery Products. Coordinate and facilitate communications at the management level with issues, performance and recommendations regarding logistics related activities. Develop strategies to improve and optimize transportation spend and service. Implement improvement programs and track results. Develop and implement distribution optimization strategies within Ralcorp Frozen Bakery Products. Provide leadership for the daily execution of transportation activities: including inbound and outbound shipments, carrier selection, audit and payments of freight bills, claims and OS&D processing, and distressed inventory management. Support efforts to deliver key Customer Service Metrics. Manage the negotiations of transportation and outside warehousing contracts for Ralc![]()
orp Frozen Bakery Products. Prepare annual transportation, warehousing and administrative budgets. Create monthly logistics financial accrual. Provide reports and financial analysis of monthly logistics expenses. Provide support to the various sales channels in rate preparations, distribution recommendations and issue resolution. Represent logistics at customer meetings when requested. Coordinate with Procurement to manage transportation efforts for inbound materials and supplies. Manage and develop Logistics Department Personnel. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of current regulations and trends affecting logistics-related activities. Identify and implement changes to operations, documents, agreements, etc. to facilitate continuous improvement and adherence to legal and government requirements. Coordinate with outside warehouse and plant personnel to minimize issues and support customer relations efforts. Represent Ralcorp Frozen Bakery Products on all Ralcorp-wide logistics initiatives.
SCOPE:
Manage 5 direct reports; 3 indirect reports. Responsible for considerable Freight and Warehouse budget and spend. Responsible for managing over 50 transportation providers, 9 third party warehouses, and 11 consignment warehouses. Supports 10 Manufacturing Facilities Dotted line responsibility for Plant Warehouse and Transportation staff.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
BA or BS minimum degree; logistics or business related field with MBA preferred. 7-10 years logistics experience, including contract negotiation and carrier/warehouse management. Strong management and interpersonal skills; 5 years direct supervisory experience. General business background with strong analytical, financial and facilitation skills. Strong leadership qualities – ability to build teams and influence at all levels of the organization. Strong Project Management skills. Superior problem solving and decision making skills. Support of complex SKU structure and multi-plant consumer goods experience preferred. PC proficient in Windows environment (Strong Database and Spreadsheet skills desired); experience with Transportation Management Systems a plus. Ability to travel (approximately 20%).
