Job Description
ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to V.P of Technical Services
JOB SUMMARY: Gather ingredients and manufacture and ship samples under the direct supervision of the Sample Lab Coordinator.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties include:
. Maintain sample lab, inventory areas and equipment in a safe, clean, neat and orderly manner.
. Maintain properly labeled, current inventory of ingredients and spices.
. Understand the identity and aspects of oils and oil blends, ingredients and spices.
. Order from inventory the ingredients and spices necessary to manufacture and ship samples.
. Properly document the ingredients and processes used to generate the samples.
. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures.
. Weigh or measure and mix specified quantities of ingredients per instructions.
. Fill stock orders.
. Monitor the seasoning blends, as mixed, for manufacturability i.e. dustiness, stratification, clarity of mixing Instructions. Point out problems and suggest solutions to Lab Coordinator or Food Technologist.
. Verify with QC the suitability for use of ingredients, spices and blends.
. Ship samples, including all paperwork and required documentation.
. File seasoning retains in QC.
. Cross train to fill in for all sample lab functions.
SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma or GED is required. Ability to use an electronic scale. Some proficiency with MicroSoft Word and ability to learn Outlook, Access and use of inventory and technical screens of ADAGE.
INTER-RELATIONS: Contact with other Sample Lab technicians, Food Technologists, Manufacturing and Quality Control personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Overtime required occasionally. Employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles; is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Noise level – Minimal to loud.
AUTHORITY: Does not direct the activities of staff or a function
NEEDED ATTRIBUTES: Aptitudes: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; speak effectively so as to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization; add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals; file alphabetically and numerically; Temperament: Ability to remain organized and to work under stressful circumstances and deadlines; and perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice; Physical: Standing for extended period of time; reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction, finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example: weighing an ingredient; tying a bag liner and using a keyboard; move about, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; regularly lift packages up to 100 pounds and to maneuver 250 lb. Mixer; vision abilities require close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus; and ability to speak and hear clearly.
