JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Commodity Procurement & Risk Manager is responsible for developing, communicating, gaining approval and executing commodity risk management strategies for a variety of commodity traded items including: edible oil and oil products, (primarily soy bean, palm, corn and other vegetable oils) and other commodities. Execute purchases and derivative hedges to support strategies. Develop communicate and gain approval for justifiable commodity budgets. Interact with division leads to ensure that financial, quality and service goals are met. Manage and facilitate interaction with appropriate suppliers. Monitor and report on appropriate financial, quality and service measures. Job duties include:

  • Develop commodity risk management strategies that are shared and/or approved by senior management on a quarterly basis.
  • Transact contracts with vendors and monitor their performance.
  • Develop justifiable budgets and budget revisions when appropriate.
  • Communicate vendor contracts and review contract performance.
  • Solicit divisional requirements and vendor quality and service performance.
  • Collaborate on ingredient and supplier initiatives that meet corporate and divisional goals.
  • Leverage vendor resources to create a competitive advantage and provide the lowest total cost to our customer.
  • Strategically align with vendors to create Ralcorp value in the supply chain and to ensure needed supply of specified ingredients.
  • Direct vendor managed CI projects.
  • Generate monthly corporate reports that quantify financial exposure as it relates to budget and market.
  • Generate and present quarterly outlooks regarding major ingredients for senior management.
  • Generate pricing charts and market analysis for various Ralcorp groups (Sales, Management, R&D).
  • Collaborate with R&D and QA in development of new products, providing cost analysis and alternative ingredients.
  • Lead and participate in cost savings projects and initiatives.
  • Communicate relevant strategic and tactical issues facing the supply base that supports our business.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science Agricultural Business/Economics or related Agricultural degree. Other Business and Purchasing degrees considered. MBA preferred.
  • Seven to 10 years experience in commodities purchasing.
  • Strong procurement or sales background and understand of agricultural commodity markets.
  • Understand agricultural food chain industry dynamics.
  • Demonstrates leadership, particularly in a team environment.
  • Experienced in negotiations and project management.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strategic sourcing, contact management, negotiating skills.
  • Project and process development skills.
  • Excellent managerial skills.
  • Solid teamwork, presentation and communication skills.
