Job Description

Our company is a globally recognized Best Place to Work. We invite applications for the position of Operations/Continuous Improvement Team Leader in Topeka, Kansas. As an Operations/Continuous Improvement Team Leader for the only wet food plant in Hill’s Pet Nutrition, you will lead production teams to attainment of Topeka Plant’s key performance indicators and pursue continuous improvement in the plant’s performance during a dynamic expansion of capital, capability and capacity. Responsibilities for Shift Coverage include: *Coach and lead various shifts of technician teams to meet or exceed key performance indicators and comply with established policies and procedures *Provide key weekend coverage and be available to work 7 days a week, depending on operational needs *Achieve individual and team KPI in operations *Apply personnel practices that adhere to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards *Provide performance feedback to employees on a regular basis *Coordinate production teams on Quality, Sanitation, and Productivity methods and procedures *Facilitate troubleshooting of production problems on a timely basis (may require climbing, bending, crawling, lifting up to 50 lbs) *Develop and implement operational plans consistent with the overall plant strategy across all shifts *Communicate with other departments to schedule sanitation or maintenance activities *Inform peers, subordinates, vendors, customers and management about projects and operations timely and accurately *Ensure safety behaviors of team to meet or exceed safety standards as published in the Hill’s Safety Policy and participate in safety initiatives set by management *Comply with company attendance and code of conduct guidelines *Coach team to handle daily employee activities such as timekeeping, vacation, overtime and employee attendance policies *Ability to develop team members’ skills and competencies by planning effective developmental activities related to current and future jobs *Facilitates a problem solving environment that values and rewards employee involvement *Manages daily employee activities such as timekeeping, vacation, overtime, and employee attendance policies *Leads/participates in Capability and Commissioning testing *Participates in co-worker performance appraisals *Leads/participates on plant cross-functional team Responsibilities for Continuous Improvement Projects include:

*Gather and analyze data to efficiently identify strategies of improvement which maximizes product quality and production efficiencies across shifts *Facilitate continuous improvement plans that impact production, training and safety on multiple shifts of operations through team consensus of both root causes and plan implementations *Research best practices for improvement ideas that blend in-house expertise with industry experience to ensure efficient and effective implementation of change *Clearly express ideas both verbally and in writing *Other job functions that may be assigned
Basic Qualifications: *Bachelor's degree *Two or more years experience supervising in an operational plant setting *Ability to work varied schedules – including weekends and 12 hour/days *At least one year experience in implementing continuous process improvement (may include six sigma, lean manufacturing or other applications) *Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly Preferred Knowledge/Experience in the following: *Two or more years experience in a canning/food production facility *BS degree in a technical field (Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Manufacturing) preferred *Systems experience to include SAP, TQM, SPC, HAACP and GMPs *Tolerance for food processing smells and a non-climate controlled work environment *Demonstrated initiative, ownership/accountability for work and seeks information for self-directed learning
