Job Description
The manager is responsible for overseeing manufacturing and packaging processes, general maintenance, sanitation and quality assurance. The manager is to ensure that department processes follow established standard operating procedures for safety, quality, and productivity, and that products manufactured meet established/expected standards. The intent is for the Manager to spend no less than 50% of the time “on-the-floor” observing, communicating and being involved in the activities of the shift.

The manager is expected to be able to maintain a positive attitude and exercise foresight to prevent problems whenever possible. This is a leadership position and is expected to instill to the employees the values of teamwork, total job responsibility, safety, pride in excellence and loyalty.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Production Manager. Responsible for general supervision of all plant personnel on the shift.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide immediate reporting responsibilities for the shift Department Supervisors and indirect departmental personnel on the shift, regarding departmental processes and procedures, schedule issues, work in process, production and quality variances, sanitation, safety and other areas impacting the general operation of the departments.

Oversee that products are processed to established specifications and by established procedures and that they are of the highest possible quality at all times.

Assist Supervisors and other departments with the coordination and optimal prioritization of all processes within the departments. i.e. the department’s state of readiness relative to safety, efficiency, and maintenance., and the operating condition of equipment and timely reporting and repair of all malfunctions.

Ensure the security and protection of company property and assets. (i.e. with regard to building lock-up, visiting service/maintenance personnel, customers, supplies, etc.)

For the shift, plan for and maintain efficient use of company resources, including materials, utilities, labor and equipment, minimizing waste and maximizing capacity wherever and whenever possible.

Assist Production Manager with the communication and enforcement of company policies and procedures. Apply all policies consistently and fairly. With Production Manager’s approval, administer conferences and warnings as needed.

Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of injury/safety documentation. Conduct accident investigations. Follow and ensure adherence to company safety regulations.

Assist the Production Manager and other departmental managers with the preparation of performance evaluations for shift personnel.

In coordination with the Production Manager, conduct training of plant personnel in relevant areas including safety and quality regulations, company standards, process procedures, and departmental/company goals. Ensure appropriate use of company SOP documents.

Prepare and present timely and accurate reports on departmental operations, variances, equipment/ labor requirements, etc. on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or as needed basis.

COMMUNICATION: Interaction and communication (both written and verbal) with people at multiple levels within and external to the organization on matters ranging from routine to exceptional requiring ordinary courtesy and tact.

DECISION MAKING: Occurs on a frequent basis and are generally guided by accepted company practices and standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS: *Office within a factory environment. *In factory: varying noise and heat levels, conditions are frequently wet. *Responsibilities allow frequent opportunity for varying work routine.
