Job Description
Position Summary: The Director of Engineering reports to the Vice President of Plant Operations and is a key member of the management team. The primary objective of this individual is to provide the leadership required to meet company safety, quality, customer service and cost objectives of the plant operational departments. The Director of Engineering manages an organization that’s comprised of 5 salaried and 18 hourly employees in the Engineering, Maintenance, and EH&S Departments.

Primary Responsibilities 1. Ensure that plant operations activities comply with all applicable regulatory and customer requirements (FDA, OSHA, AQMD, etc.) 2. Ensure that customer service, productivity, and cost goals are attained. 3. Ensure that facility housekeeping standards are maintained at all times. 4. Lead plant-wide efforts to improve plant safety results and ensure OSHA compliance. 5. Lead plant-wide efforts to ensure compliance with the requirements established by environmental regulatory agencies. 6. Support cross-functional efforts to improve quality and productivity while reducing waste. 7. Develop and manage capital and department expense budgets. 8. Ensure timely equipment changeovers. 9. Implement and manage PM program for facility and plant equipment. Lead cultural change efforts to improve asset stewardship. 10. Foster an environment that promotes a positive relationship between the workforce and management team.

Requirements 1. Bachelor degree in an engineering discipline 2. 10+ years of operations management experience in a FDA regulated (cGMP) environment (food, beverage, personal care, OTC pharmaceutical and/or the cosmetics industry). 3. A minimum of five years of experience managing salaried employees. 4. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. 5. 5+ years of experience managing capital projects (including contractors). 6. 3+ years of experience managing a plant maintenance department. 7. 3+ years of experience developing cost justification for capital expenditures. 8. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

Preferences 1. Ability to speak Spanish 2. Experience with continuous improvement methods (Lean, Six sigma or other programs). 3. Advanced technical or business degree
