Job Description
ARS Direct is currently seeking a Brand Manager for their client in the Greater Boston area. Our client is a leader in the food market and is looking to take the next step to get their product out to the public. This private owned company is growing, but still feels like a small company. This is a direct placement, with excellent benefits offered. General Description The Brand Manager will plan, develop and direct the marketing efforts for the brand(s) to achieve bottom line profitability. To achieve annual objectives the brand manager will coordinate the activities of specialists in production, sales, advertising & promotion, R&D, marketing research, purchasing, distribution, package development, and finance to achieve brand objectives. Primary duties include the development of strategic and annual plans in conjunction with the VP of Marketing, setting of goals and objectives of the brand(s), leading and guiding market research, brand positioning, new product development, sales and pricing strategies, oversight of creative tactics and campaigns, and developing and maintaining strategic partnerships and licensing agreements. Position Responsibilities ? Leads a wide variety of functional areas to develop and manage marketing objectives, goals, strategies, and tactics for the brand, which are developed based on consumer needs and market opportunities. ? Leads product development process which begins by identifying new consumer insights, creating product positioning, assessing market potential, and partnering with other functional areas to quickly bring viable new products to market. ? Delivers sales and profit goals of the brand. Ultimately responsible for budget, P&L, and competitive analyses. Identifies opportunities for growth, cost improvements, new products, assortment, and pricing. Sets the direction for the Brand's yearly goals, strategies, tactics and measures. ? Manages relationships with Agencies and internal resources. Works to ensure a unified Brand image and message throughout advertising, packaging and promotional efforts. Develops efficient media plans. ? Evaluates copy. Determines with market research if correct message is reaching correct consumers. ? Ensures thorough marketing plans are completed in a timely and accurate basis, including: Brand reviews/analyses, budget plans (approving invoices, authorizing spending, entering data, P&L), promotional plans (managing agency relationships), media/ad plans, competitive analyses, and accurate forecasting for Brands and sku's. ? Develops on-going recommendations for marketing mix elements and other business building initiatives. ? Directs workflow to avoid "fire drills," is actively ready to discuss budgets, forecast. ? Works closely with Sales to ensure trade/consumer marketing develops programs that meet Brand and sales objectives. Attends/presents at Sales Calls at key customers. ? Participates in building the company’s capabilities and culture. ? Ensures Legal and Management approval of all documents, contracts, and materials that touch external stakeholders. ? Works with cross-functional teams and keeps them motivated and informed. Knowledge & Skills The ideal candidate would be well rounded in all aspects of marketing and sales methodology to both channel and consumer customers. Extensive knowledge of food marketing issues, pricing models, consumer packaging, channels of distribution, technology trends, customer buying patterns, market research, syndicated data, market segmentation, budgeting, public relations, advertising, statistics and analysis, P&L background, direct marketing, planning skills, database marketing, competitive strategies, event marketing, channel marketing, merchandising, product marketing, and presentation skills. Because this position is a mix of routine and project-based responsibilities, candidate must have exceptional organizational skills. Additional skills include being results oriented and creative; possessing strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills with an entrepreneurial drive. Position Qualifications ? BS required, MBA an advantage. Four to six years classical marketing experience preferably in a consumer packaged goods company, ideally in a food manufacturing environment. ? Consumer packaged goods experience providing in-depth knowledge of consumer and trade marketing objectives into functional strategies and tactics. ? Successful prior experience working with Brand Management teams to translate marketing objectives into functional strategies and tactics. ? Proven ability to develop and execute value-added programs. ? Strong communication and interpersonal skills to function effectively in a team environment. ? Commitment to results; ability to incorporate new learning into existing plans and act decisively. ? Ability to coordinate high work volume and pressing time requirements. ? Proficient with AC Nielsen, IRI, Spectra and similar market research data. ? Experience developing fact-based selling presentations.
