POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the Engineering Services Department and all activities relating to plant infrastructure: boilers, compressors, condensers, refrigeration system and waste water treatment. OSHA regulations to include PSM and environmental, utilities, Preventative Maintenance, AMMS and engineering specialties such as project management, ammonia and automated controls. The Engineering Manager leads the development of systems and assigns staff to ensure the effectiveness of engineering services and manufacturing capability to meet manufacturing requirements to ensure manufacturing Reliability and Attainment KPI’s are met. The Manager will perform these functions utilizing Keys to Enterprise (KTE) principles, coaching guidelines and developing subordinate employees to their full potential.
Manager must be considered extremely competent in 2 of the 3 following disciplines: Ammonia refrigeration (mandatory) Process logic control (PLC) design and implementation Electrical distribution systems (480v / 3 phase)
ORGANIZATIONAL CHART: The Engineering Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES BY MANUFACTURING SKILL AREA:
Manufacturing Strategy • Be aware of manufacturing strategies as they relate to daily operation. • Oversee staff schedules, materials, and processes to serve operational requirements.
Product, Processing and Packaging Expertise • Develop understanding of equipment sufficient to lead skilled Engineering Specialists. • Use personal and team’s technical expertise to identify and lead process improvement efforts. • Facilitate troubleshooting by team.
Manufacturing Performance Management • Support team in setting performance objectives and managing processes to meet or exceed them. • Measure and monitor individual and team performance, correct shortfalls, and recognize excellence.
Asset Investment and Care • Ensure that equipment maintenance activities take place to minimize downtime and extend operational life of equipment. • Monitor use of materials to ensure most productive use and eliminate waste.
Quality Assurance • Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP and other established quality assurance procedures. • Ensure complete quality reporting activities. • Work with team to correct quality deficiencies and to improve quality standards.
Responsible Care • Ensure that safety, health and environmental requirements are followed in all equipment, procedures and working conditions. • Work to improve safety and health conditions by leading accident investigations and Safety/Ergonomics team initiatives. • Cooperate fully with return to work program for work-restricted employees. • Serve as informational resource to team in safety, health and environmental matters
Human Factors • Provide on-going guidance to employees through training, coaching and the Annual Review process. • Apply Guiding Principals in all interactions with employees, peers and managers in order to maintain positive, productive and successful relationships. • When addressing corrective action, focus on specific issues, consistency and confidentiality. • Support company philosophies, missions, and practices, especially in daily interaction with employees.
Influencing and Implementing Innovation • Participate fully in the Keys to Excellence Program, with focus on continuous improvement and employee involvement. • Support start-up of new products and equipment, and seek ways to improve new processes. • Foster an environment of focused innovation.
Extended Supply Chain Interaction • Interact effectively with support departments to ensure effective material, process and product flows. • Work as appropriate with outside vendors to ensure service and quality of supplies. • Generally recognize customer-supplier relations and focus on improvement.
Project Management • Plan and execute projects involved with repair and capital installation. • Use resources effectively achieving expected results within budget and time constraints.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Mandatory completion of BS degree in a technical discipline (preferred discipline: Mechanical Engineering).
Considerable experience (10+ years) in facility/maintenance engineering in an ammonia refrigerated food manufacturing environment.
