Our client, a fast growing leader in the food ingedient industry is again growing and now seeking a Technical Director to manage the applications laboratory.
Job Description/Major Roles and Responsibilities:
PRIMARY ROLES: The Management of application of flavors to customer-provided or internally-developed bases; this will require tasting and establishment of suitable use rates for flavors.
This position will require a working knowledge of food systems to facilitate independent development of bases for application when customer base is not available. This knowledge base will come from either formal education or practical experience or both.
Proactive product development will also be a key responsibility for this position. Utilization of market information gleaned through interaction with the Marketing Information Specialist and/or other sources will be used to identify areas where we, as a company can proactively engage our customers.
The position will require an understanding of use rates and applications for preservatives, acidulants, stabilizers and colors as well as ability to make suitable solutions of these ingredients. Knowledge of pilot plant equipment to include, but not limited to: homogenizer, UHT and retort are also desirable in this role.
The ability to do simple unit conversions as well as unitize products will be necessary.
The position will require the ability to work with the customer in either a face-to-face or telephone capacity and build solid relationships which will increase the appeal to our customers.
The ability to converse and present samples to the customer in a clear and well-thought-out manner are also required. It will be a requirement for this position to stay apprised of new flavor technologies which may become available through suppliers.
This will be accomplished through reading periodical professional publications, active involvement in IFT local and national meetings when possible and deemed necessary by management, and also through professional networking within the industry. It will then be the responsibility of this role to be able to apply the new technology in a meaningful manner and demonstrate its function to professional peers as well as to customers.
Full involvement, participation and compliance with the company safety rules, regulations and procedures will be necessary.
Management and supervisory experience is required.
You must have a BS Degree in Food Science or related field along with several years of supervisory/management experience in applications and/or product development.
You must have a Green Card or be a permanent resident of the USA.
