Job Description
Duties: -Apply technical skills to identify innovative business opportunities and address technical challenges. -Utilize principles and methodology of experimental design to investigate technical problems and determine actionable solutions. -Accurately scope out length and difficulty of tasks and projects; set objectives and goals to achieve business results. -Accept absolute responsibility for business performance. -Versatile learner with the ability to quickly grasp and process technical information. -Provide trained and experienced knowledge in the food technology technical field for the development of new or improved products and processes. -Performs research and development activities concerned with the chemical, biological, and physical nature of food in order to evaluate and improve the quality of existing food products and related processes and to develop new products and processes. -Where assigned to quality assurance functions, conducts food technology experimentation including taste-test panel evaluation with test batches for new products or processes. -Provides test batches for quality control testing. -Coordinates with research chemistry personnel in developing new flavoring ingredients. -Coordinates pilot plant or initial production runs on new products or processes. -Prepares and supplies new formulas and specification for new products. -Under general direction and guidance, contributes to the preparation of technical proposals, amendments, reports, and terminations. -Directs the operation of lab equipment in the performance of tests or experiments. -Maintains an awareness of patentable items and technical developments in the field of specialty. -Independently design, plan and execute experiments. -Interpret experimental results and implement next steps. -Demonstrate thorough knowledge of pilot plant and commercial scale processes and equipment. -Generate raw material, manufacturing and finished product specifications utilizing on-line specification system. -Work with cross-functional departments to accomplish project objectives. -Contact external industry experts to obtain and present technical information to the R&D organization that can be applied to projects. -Organize and lead project presentations to brand management. -Maintain awareness of current technical trends and indentify and implement technologies that can be applied to increase profitability. -Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion of project objectives in a fast-paced environment. -Sporadic to frequent travel, including flying to all parts of the U.S. possibly overseas, and driving a company or rental automobile 4 to 6 hours as needed.
