Job Description
Do you understand the world of perishable foods? Have you managed purchasing efforts for fresh, perishable products with limited shelf lives? Our client, a leading purveyor of organic poultry, meat, game, and other specialty products, is expanding and creating a senior level position to oversee its Purchasing Department. This is a great opportunity to work for a company that is committed to procuring and providing the freshest and most consistent products available, and to partnering with suppliers dedicated to sustainable and humane farming practices.
This position will be responsible for managing the existing team as well as evaluating, growing and evolving the department’s structure as appropriate.
Responsibilities include: · Accountability for all company procurement · Establish productive working relationships with the existing vendor base and seek backup and alternative suppliers where appropriate. · Negotiate favorable pricing and exclusivity arrangements. · Work with upper management to approve price changes and enter in the system on a timely basis. · Improve upon a rudimentary purchasing forecasting model to minimize out of stocks, freezer transfers and garbage write-offs. · Work intimately with Operations and Quality Assurance Managers to ensure maintenance of proper inventory levels, stock rotation, receiving and “Push List” designation. · Build and oversee company’s sourcing capability.
Ideal candidates will have: · Familiarity with intricacies of perishable products; meat background is a plus · Ability to take the department’s systems to a new level of sophistication · Strong managerial skills and work ethic; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work in a team environment
