Job Summary:
Manages the design, development and implementation of research and development initiatives to support business objectives. Maintains effective cross-functional relationships. Utilizes existing and/or emerging technologies to design and build consumer-valued points of competitive differentiation to drive growth.
Responsibilities:
Make technical recommendations to management used as a basis for business decisions. Develop strategic plans for research activities on multiple brands. Directs the identification, development and implementation of cost efficiency opportunities through formulation and processing. Responsible for the identification and exploration of new product innovation opportunities. Responsible for subordinate recruitment, training, performance evaluation, feedback, and career development. Provide leadership for key projects with R&D. Plan, execute and monitor approved product and process development. Identify and coordinate manpower and physical resources. Responsible for the preparation of project proposals. Maintain state of the art expertise in food R&D and keep abreast of food regulations. Communicate program related issues and status to management. Select, train and motivate technical staff. Recommend training tools to improve employee performance and support specific skill development. Evaluate employee performance and recommend salary adjustments. Requirements
Qualifications for Manager, R&D Meats:
BS Food Science, Food Engineering, or related scientific field plus 7-9 years relevant work experience; OR MS Food Science plus 5-7 years experience required; or PhD plus 3-5 years experience. Minimum of 3 years direct people management experience required. Experience with food safety and government regulatory requirements. Knowledge of consumer testing methodology. Strong communication, negotiating and conflict resolution skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
