Job Description

Newly Weds Foods is a world leader in food ingredient technology. A network of research & development, manufacturing and service facilities around the globe allows us to serve our customer's needs in more than 68 countries. We offer a complete line of custom batters, breadings, coatings, spices, seasonings, capsicums and functional ingredients for food manufacturers and the foodservice industries. We have an immediate opening for a Sr. Product Development Scientist in our Chicago, Illinois office. We are conveniently located near the Healy Metra station. The Sr. Product Development Scientist – Bakery Specialist position will be responsible for formulating, applying, testing and evaluating outgoing products ensuring they are properly prepared and meeting company and customer standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Develop, duplicate and modify bread, roll and sweet bakery items formulation. • Formulate, apply, test at bench level and evaluate outgoing products ensuring proper preparation. • Create finished samples and arrange for completed products/samples to be shipped to customers. • Conduct product presentations for internal/external customers. • Monitor and test trial plant production to ensure compliance with culinary, health, safety and sanitation standards. • Laboratory analysis of final products to ensure compliance with labeling standards, food consistency and adherence to cost standards. • Establish appropriate quality control standards and specifications including adherence to HACCP program, FDA certification and AIB inspections. • Maintain accurate project files, formulae, specifications and data. • Adept at writing reports and business correspondence, updating procedure manuals and manage professional communications with internal and external customers and suppliers. The ideal candidate will possess the following: • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related discipline. • A solid 10+ years experience in bread, roll and sweet bakery items product development. • Ability to read, analyze and interpret food industry periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and/or government regulations. • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision. • Excellent communication skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Excel and Word. • Knowledge of AS400 a plus.
