Job Description
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY

The SSE Manager will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and overseeing implementation of all Safety, Security, and Environmental (SSE) programs and processes at the plant. The SSE Manager will ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, Company policies, and continuous improvement in key identified measures and objectives. The SSE Manager will prepare and build a consensus for annual plans for plant wide SSE initiatives. All Salaried employees have access to a list of critical contact names and information. Management personnel share responsibility for legality, employee and product safety, and environmental and quality systems at all times. The Manager on Duty (MOD) on site is responsible for situational leadership until key staff can be appropriately engaged. ___________________________________________________________________________________

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Provide leadership and administration to the overall SSE program by developing an annual plan, achieving consensus on the plan and objectives with the leadership team, and monitoring the progress of the plan against objectives.

2. Complete and/or approve all required regulatory and company reporting documents.

3. Develop performance standards and methods of accomplishing those standards for the facility.

4. Understand relevant technical requirements in SSE including State and local ordinances and rules.

5. Ensure the facility standards meet or exceed both company and governmental and/or community regulations.

6. Oversee both the implementation of company SSE management systems (KSRMP, KEMS, ISO, etc.) and the approach for how the company’s management systems will be executed in the facility; Design the local process.

7. Follow up on non-conformances and develop systems to resolve them, including follow ups; Develop or acquire custom tools to address specific issues.

8. Lead the design of and monitor the performance of the teams that are typically used to execute the specific work activities that drive the process improvements.

9. Ensure appropriate risk assessments are conducted and follow ups implemented in each functional area (SSE) to minimize or eliminate accidents, asset losses, security breaches, and environmental issues that might cause harm to one of the company’s employees, contractors, visitors, assets or reputation.

10. Provide SSE expertise for all new projects and change management activities.

11. Ensure training and coaching is taking place to ensure Safety, Security, and Environmental standards and awareness are well understood throughout the plant organization.

12. Organize the annual training plan; Personally conduct high priority topic training.

13. Coach the Plant Manager and Staff on their specific roles and responsibilities as visible leaders.

14. Manage the facility SSE budget in a way that minimizes cost to the facility.

15. Coordinate, with the Quality Manager, the Global Security Food Defense program.

16. Serve as the plant’s primary point of contact for all SSE regulatory and community contacts and all plant’s SSE teams; Build a network within the community/region/sector with other SSE professionals.

17. Lead the facility emergency response planning and training; Proficient in the company’s Special Situations Management Program.

EDUCATION REQUIRED

BS Degree in Engineering or other technical field or at least 4 years experience in Safety, Security, and Environmental leadership or a related discipline in a smaller facility.

SPECIALIZED JOB KNOWLEDGE OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

1. In depth knowledge of OSHA and state standards as they apply within the facility.

2. In depth knowledge of EPA standards as well as a demonstrated ability to interpret state and local regulations as they apply.

3. Knowledge of risk assessment and management techniques in identification of key facility improvement opportunities.

4. Ability to understand and apply Security principles in an industrial setting.

5. Ability to understand ISO certification requirements; Create and manage programs that achieve and maintain certification.
