Job Description

 

Director of Operations- Texas/Mexico

Develops policy and directs and coordinates related activities by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in receiving, storage, processing, grading, packing, and shipping of produce by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  •           Prepares strategic plan with short and long range goals to meet company objectives.
  •          Writes directives advising department managers of company policy.
  •          Consults legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law.
  •          Develops and maintains a system that meets top management information needs..           
  •         Oversees the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law or local governing bodies, or other departments in the organization
  •         Oversees purchases of all equipment used in packinghouse.
  •         Sets up and maintains production schedules
  •         Maintains overall safety programs and sees that basic labor laws and enforced.
  •         Responsible for maintaining a safe, orderly and clean facility at all times.
  •         Sees that machinery and equipment repair schedules are kept.
  •         Carries out personnel policies and procedures consistently.
  •         Keeps management and sales department informed of production schedules.
  •        Answers inquiries on production issues.
  •        Investigates customers’ complaints involving such matters as quality, overcharges, and delay in shipment, and makes necessary adjustments.
  •        Prepares cost estimates for management practices.

           

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.            B.S. in Engineering or Business Administration plus five to seven years of relevant work experience in operations or supply chain management in the fresh produce industry.

2.            Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English and Spanish.

3.            Advanced mathematical skills. Knowledge of statistics desired but not required.

4.            Must be able to troubleshoot equipment/process problems and propose solutions.  Problem-solving skills are essential to this position.

5.            Must have understanding of budgeting and purchasing.

6.            Advanced computer skills and familiar with computer spreadsheets programs (i.e. Excel). 

Must have excellent employee relations, supervision, and leadership skills to manage 10 or more people
