DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING & MAINTENANCE
A Northern NJ food manufacturer is looking for a Director of Engineering & Maintenance to ensure the delivery of quality and efficient industrial engineering and maintenance services to the organization.
Specific Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Industrial Engineering
- Provide leadership and direction to the Industrial Engineering group.
o Develop and maintain labor production standards to support process improvement through work measurement and analysis.
o Maintain and improve production data collection process development of production reports.
o Evaluate new and improved operating methods, technology, equipment, facility design and layout.
o Adjust and update standards, procedures and form layout as needed to achieve maximum productivity.
Maintenance
o Provide leadership and direction to the plant maintenance function.
- Supervise activities related to mechanical and electrical maintenance of plant facilities and machinery – pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical.
- Maintain an effective preventive maintenance process for the seamless operation of plant equipment. Keep equipment maintained and functioning to meet all production and quality requirements and improve employee safety, production quality, equipment reliability and overall equipment effectiveness.
- Conduct special projects and initiatives, and oversee implementation.
- Evaluate, select, recommend and substantiate new equipment.
- Provide direction to outside contractors as required.
Food Safety:
o Take all measures necessary to ensure food safety and quality.
Human Resources / Safety
o Ensure a safe, clean and productive work environment, and maintain a positive employee relations climate throughout the organization.
o Maintain an adequately staffed, well qualified, and fully trained Engineering and Maintenance staff.
Knowledge/Skills Required
o Process-related food industry experience.
o Skilled in application of industrial engineering and maintenance principles and tools.
o Knowledge of CMMS processes.
o Knowledge of predictive maintenance tools.
o Hands-on experience with a preventive maintenance process particularly important.
o Project management skills essential.
o Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
o Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management staff and employees.
o Self-motivated and goal-oriented with strong organizational skills.
o Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced production environment, with a high energy, proactive style.
o Sound judgment and a well-developed sense of urgency.
o Proven ability to analyze problems, and recommend and implement solutions.
o Strong decision making, team building and technical skills.
o Familiarity with the Oracle System.
o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
o Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus!
Experience/Education Required
o A solid Industrial Engineering and Maintenance background with 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in a management capacity within a USDA-regulated food manufacturing environment.
o A Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering – advanced degree highly desirable.
