Job Description

Sugar Creek Packing Co. - Hamilton, OH

Position: QA Technician

  PositionJob Function:

Tests and inspects products at various stages of production process and compiles and evaluates data to determine and maintain quality standards of the products being produced. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as weight, water activity (Aw), moisture, dimensions, color, piece count, presentation, residual oxygen, package integrity, code dating, and other visual/physical characteristics.  In some cases some basic microbiology tests will be performed, such as shelf-life studies, clean equipment APC and ATP swabs along with operational APC swabs.  The testing involves destructive and non-destructive tests on products and packaging to measure against standards.  Communicates and records all deviations from standards/acceptable quality level (AQL) to QA Manager, and Production Manager/Supervisor of the Department.  Places all out of standard product on hold for disposition by management.

Enforces Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), according to USDA and Sugar Creek Packing Policies. Responsible for ensuring the quality of the finished product meets specifications in his/her specific department.

Other duties which may be assigned from time to time.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, averages, multiplication, addition and subtraction.  Must be able to record and evaluate figures correctly and accurately.  Ability to frequently lift and/move up to 10 lbs., work in a cold environment, and all Sugar Creek Packing Safety Policies.

Displays willingness to make decisions; exhibits sound and accurate judgment; supports and explains reasoning for decisions; includes appropriate people in decision-making process; makes timely decisions.

Attendance and punctuality is of the utmost importance.
