We are currently recruiting for a Electrical Team Leader - Packaging for our brewery in Albany, GA.

The primary role of the Team Leader – Electrical is to ensure integrity of the packaging line electrical, instrumentation, control and automation systems and complex inspection equipment. This includes responsibility for asset management: overall reliability and up time of the packaging equipment and provision of effective engineering support to the shift based production teams.

Safety and Housekeeping

  • Ensuring that the PEST applies proper safety and housekeeping procedures, and adheres to all legal requirements when carrying out their tasks.
  • Ensuring implementation of the appropriate Miller and legislative policies (OSHA act) on safety and housekeeping. Ensuring that safety and housekeeping receive appropriate focus through regular checks and safety audits.
  • Correcting unsafe work practices when identified.

Asset Management

  • Participating in the development of the asset management plans for the packaging line electrical, control, automation systems and complex inspection equipment.
  • Contributing suggestions and providing expert advice. Implementing the asset management plan for the packaging lines, ensuring the electrical engineering team ( PEST ) has the required competencies.
  • Ensuring that asset management goals are incorporated into PEST and individual goals
  • Auditing compliance to the asset management program by both the PEST and shift based teams for assigned area. Ensuring that asset management competencies are developed in the PEST.
  • Where training needs have been identified, through the training controller, ensure these are addressed. Identifying needs and requirements for inclusion in the asset management budget.

Packaging Reliability

  • Leading the PEST in the providing asset management and engineering support to the shift based production teams. Verifying that the PEST is carrying out routine and planned maintenance, and validating quality of work.
  • Verifying electrical, control, automation systems and complex inspection equipment are working properly and data integrity Ensuring equipment is operating optimally and to identify problems or opportunities in a timely manner.
  • Facilitating and administering the 5-why and FFA level 2 responsibilities

Packaging Optimization

  • Providing guidance and advice to the shift based teams on instrumentation, process fault finding and correct responses to plant automation failure modes.
  • Coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer of process automation to shift based teams.
  • Analyzing line flows and V-curve profiles to insure correct line balance.
  • Taking part in brewery and corporate optimization trials, providing advice, assistance and guidance where required.
  • Evaluating impact of new packaging equipment, and sign off on all packaging electrical modifications and changes for the assigned area.
  • Analyzing packaging electronic equipment and systems performance data to identify opportunities for improvement, and initiating opportunity evaluation.
  • Analyzing packaging failure modes and investigating causes for repeat failures to identify and correct root causes.
  • Taking part in evaluating continuous improvement opportunities identified by the shift based teams or engineering support.
  • Ensuring that continuous improvement is built into PEST goals, and is part of regular goal review sessions

Team Leadership

  • Leading the PEST in a manner that fosters ownership, empowerment and team interaction.
  • Leading in the development of PEST goals and ensuring that these are communicated and understood by team members. Conducting regular PEST goal review sessions, and conducting regular one-on-ones and performance reviews.
  • Ensuring training needs analysis is conducted and training plans developed for team members.
  • Ensuring appropriate competencies are developed in the team, and ensuring cross training occurs within the PEST.

Education level and/or experience:

  •  BS Electrical Engineering or related technical degree and/or equivalent experience.
  • Prior production, engineering, & electrical experience in a line management position

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Solid understanding of maintenance management and asset care
  • Basic understanding of machine design and high speed manufacturing operations.
  • In-depth understanding of electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation systems.
  • Leadership, initiative, and analytical problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of WCM strategies

Other requirements

  • Knowledge of high speed packaging equipment.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Able to facilitate advanced problem-solving.
  • Able to manage computer-based work-order systems (Maximo), work with computer systems, and maintain system integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish professional networks outside of brewery for benchmarking and current technology.
