Job Description

SUMMARY:

Responsible for managing the entire wastewater treatment operations facility that handles approximately 2.8 million gallons of wastewater daily from a pork processing and biodiesel production plant. The discharge from this facility goes to a municipal lagoon system, used for land application.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Manage the day to day operations of the wastewater treatment system to; (at a minimum) meet applicable permitted discharge limits and applicable state and federal regulations. The treatment system consists of DAF and clarifier pretreatment and further treatment through anaerobic and activated sludge systems.
  • Conduct minor maintenance duties of equipment such as pumps, aeration system and other similar equipment in the system.
  • Assure accurate sampling and analysis of waste treatment system according to specifications and standard procedures. Maintain documentation of analytical results.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records for the facility.
  • Responsible for safety, training, development, and overall management of staff.
  • Maintain timely communications and accurate reporting to Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in biology, chemistry, or environmental science. Five (5) or more years experience in wastewater treatment system operations, preferably in activated sludge. Level C wastewater lab/wastewater operator license or higher.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations. Must be able to use mathematical formulas and calculations to prepare or interpret routine statistical information.

 

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form. Ability to analyze data to make decisions and/or recommendations for solutions.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the facility.  Will be standing on concrete for up to 10 hours per day, 5 days per week.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, use hand to finger coordination; handle or feel objects, tools or controls.

 

WORKENVIRONMENT:

The work environment includes a laboratory environment as well as climate extremes during outdoor work. The employee will be exposed to wastewater and odors associated with wastewater treatment at various stages of the treatment process, chemicals and fumes associated with laboratory work. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate, occasionally loud, depending upon the area of the treatment facility.

Note:  The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management.
