Job Title:             Engineering Manager

Department:        Maintenance

Reports To:          General Manager

FLSA Status:       Salary Exempt

SUMMARY

 

To direct and manage the overall functions of engineering and maintenance to ensure the reliability of equipment and facilities to enable future growth and success of the company.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.   1. Plan and direct new construction, plant modifications and equipment installations. 
  2. Plan, organize and direct maintenance activities. 
  3. Ensure cost efficiencies and reductions using knowledge of equipment, materials and parts. 
  4. Departmental communication and reports, and state rules compliance. 
  5. Observe and practice safety and housekeeping procedures at all times. Attend Safety Meetings.
  6. Perform all requirements of sanitation, GMP/HACCP standards.

 

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Plan and monitor budget for R&M and utilities. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1 Maintenance Supervisor, salary exempt; 3 Maintenance foremen, salary exempt; 27 hourly non-exempt employees.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems used in a large facility.  The job requires a person that is a self starter with entrepreneurial traits.  Should possess a strong background in OSHA regulations and plant safety.  Also requires strong  verbal and written skills.

 

REQUIRMENTS

?        Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering field, is required

?        Experience in HVAC and refrigeration systems

?        Experience in creating layouts and engineering drawings with AutoCAD

?         Must have at least nine years combined experience as Mechanic, Foreman, Supervisor

?        Must possess excellent organizational, planning and communication skills

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The physical requirements listed below are rated on a percentage per workday basis.  Reference is made according to the terms "Seldom" (1-19%), "Occasional" (20-39%), "Frequent" (40-79%), and "Continuous" (80-100%).

 

  1. Standing/Walking: Frequent.  Employee walks on wet concrete, asphalt, dirt, ladders, platforms, rooftops, and catwalks.
  2. Sitting: Occasional.
  3. Lifting/Carrying: Seldom.  Varies with repair and maintenance activities.  Lifting to 75 lbs.
  4. Pushing/Pulling: Seldom.
  5. Reaching/Stretching: Seldom
  6. Handling: Occasional
  7. Bending/Stooping: Occasional
  8. Kneeling: Occasional.  To reach ground level.
  9. Climbing: Occasional.  To service machinery that is not within reach.  Plumbing, AHUs, valves, etc.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

 

Outdoor conditions in heat, cold, wind, high ammonia, dust. Inside conditions are often damp and/or wet creating a moist environment.  Floors are level concrete. Temperatures are between 60 – 75 degrees.

 

Maintain sanitation standards as developed and announced.  Recognize that special clothing may be required from time to time for sanitation purposes.

 

Good housekeeping practices at work place and general plant area.
