Job Description

 

As Project Engineer you will be responsible for managing engineering projects in food manufacturing facilities from concept through design, planning, installation, start-up and follow up assessment.  You will work with plant management, corporate resources, and third party vendors to develop and implement cost effective solutions that work. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage assigned engineering projects to meet cost, time, and quality requirements:
    • develop project budget and manage ongoing costs
    • define scope, roles and responsibilities,
    • solicit, review, recommend, and obtain approval on bids for work and equipment required
    • oversee contractors and employees assigned to the project
    • supervise construction, purchase and installation of equipment, and initial start-up
    • establish preventative maintenance and spare parts programs for each project
  • Provide support for Capital Requests for Funding (CRFs); conduct project cost analysis, prepare cost estimates, provide alternatives, etc. 
  • Maintain detailed records for each project such as action plans, timelines, roles and responsibilities, cost tracking, and status against plan. 
  • Review project records periodically to assess problems encountered, progress made, solutions identified, and opportunities to share learning and expertise among operations throughout the organization. 
  • Actively and continuously work with plant management to evaluate and assess plant operations to identify opportunities for improving production efficiency and quality from an engineering perspective.
  • Provide technical engineering and project management support to departmental peers, plant management, sales staff, and others as needed.

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • BS in Engineering required
  • Five or more years project engineering experience in the food industry including both manufacturing and corporate capital projects.
  • Working knowledge of, and hands-on experience with, thermo heat transfer principles and applications including ammonia refrigeration equipment and systems.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration preferred
  • Frequent out-of-town overnight travel (30-40%)
