Master's degree in Animal Breeding, Statistical Genetics/Genomics, or a closely related field is required. Ph.D. is preferred. Knowledge and experience in quantitative genetics, population genetics and animal breeding. Facility with data handling and statistical analysis tools is required. Facility with BLUP genetic analysis software is preferred. Experience with genetic marker technologies is a plus. Three years experience is preferred.
The Animal Geneticist will be responsible for implementing improvements to Perdue meat chicken breeding stock by means of quantitative genetics techniques, supplemented by molecular based technologies. Designing and implementing breeding programs for designated pedigreed commercial foundation lines of meat chickens. Conduct independent research on enhancements to current breeding programs and objectives. Assist other geneticists in the design and implementation of the breeding programs for other foundation lines of meat chickens. Assist operations staff with the effective execution of breeding programs.
