The purpose of this job is to provide project management and engineering services at the plant level and enable the plant to meet goals in the areas of manufacturing facilities, systems, and infrastructure. Support, implement, and maintain food safety and quality practices as required through SQF. Will be responsible for completing job duties in a manner that supports all plant safety, food safety, quality and environmental practices.
JOB ACTIVITIES/DUTIES
1. Manage multiple assigned engineering projects establishing manpower, budgets, scheduling, equipment, and materials.
2. Control project scope, schedule, costs and quality via project management skills.
3. Select and manage equipment suppliers and vendors.
4. Select, hire and manage engineering consultants and construction contractors.
5. Stay abreast of, evaluate and select appropriate equipment and technology.
6. Specify and design cereal processing, packaging, and infrastructure systems.
7. Prepare reports: expenditure requests, monthly reports, etc.
8. Conduct feasibility studies and cost - benefit analysis.
9. Provide construction management and start-up management.
10. Maintain an up-to-date awareness of Federal, State, and Local engineering codes and regulations.
11. Review ergonomics, safety requirements and sanitation/GMP/food safety aspects of assigned projects.
12. Participate and be an active member of the engineering department to foster teamwork and provide excellent customer service.
13. Provide training and educational services to all departments when applicable.
14. Conduct discussions with internal customers to obtain input and communicate project plans.
15. Supervise and manage project construction activities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline required. Graduate studies in business, management, or engineering is a plus. Extensive working knowledge of project management, operations and food processing required. Minimum of 5 years engineering experience in operations, project management, process design and contractor supervision in a process environment. Proven management experience of complex projects is required. Must be well rounded with grasp of many engineering disciplines as well as plant operations and construction. Ability to formulate and execute a very complex plan, that when complete, will meet project or plant goals; Engineering analysis and design. Project scheduling experience is mandatory. Sound analytical thinking; ability to design, construct, and start-up processing and utility systems of significant magnitude. Must be able to perform engineering calculations to support plant operation and improvement projects. Ability to manage very major, complex projects from concept to completion; Alternately, must effectively manage multiple concurrent small projects; ability to develop and organize an effective design team to meet project goals, either from in-house or outside company; ability to work with people; ability to lead project team to successful development of project scope and implementation of project. Strong organizational skills. Must be able to leverage external engineering resources. Occasional travel required for project meetings, supplier/consultant meetings, and inspections. Must be able to read, write and communicate in the English language.
