Job Description

 

JOB SUMMARY:  

Contribute engineering expertise to the success of Nestles multifunctional and multinational organization, developing new competitive packaging equipment technologies for existing and new products.  Work is in a project-orientated and cross-functional organization, working on a number of simultaneous projects all at various stages.  Demonstrate thorough understanding of and capability of driving innovative food packaging technologies and integrating process systems and controls including robotics, in the manufacture of a wide range of frozen and refrigerated food products.  

A primary focus will be the manufacture of frozen meals, frozen and chilled pasta products, baked products,  pizza and other dough based products.  

The position requires strong project management, leadership, communication and presentation skills. Must have strong technical and scientific background to enable transition of engineering principles to operational design/reality.  Should possess both an innovative ability and then the capability to become a change agent for new process and packaging technology.

Understanding of frozen and refrigerated foods overall manufacturing processes a secondary but negotiable requirement.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Provide packaging engineering expertise to influence equipment suppliers and project teams to design packaging systems for renovating existing products and creating new innovative products for the future.
2.    Review existing data to evaluate whether additional research and information gathering needs to be conducted in order to make a well informed decision.
3.    Responsible for designing, installing and commissioning new packaging systems, monitoring modifications as well as troubleshooting existing packaging systems.
4.    Preparation of detailed R&D reports, equipment diagrams, equipment layouts, and effective documentation including technical plans, experimental reports, pilot plant and factory trials, and specifications.
5.    Selection, management, and working with vendors and sub-contractors to implement packaging initiatives.
6.    Create and leverage external partnerships with key suppliers while assuring Nestlé ownership and appropriate management of Intellectual Property.

7.    Work closely with other R&D centers, as well as NUSA Engineering Management to monitor and improve the efficiency, output, and safety of our Nestle factories.
8.    Application of technical insights to implement safe, efficient and sustainable packaging initiatives
9.    Detailed knowledge and understanding of existing packaging systems to provide collaborative input to cross functional teams in order to provide integrated technical solutions for repurposing lines across our network of manufacturing sites to increase flexibility, improve efficiency, and optimize capital investments.
10.    Complete the necessary testing to ensure the packaging systems work at the optimum level, to the right rate and the right quality of output, in order to meet our client's needs.
11.    Make observations and take measurements directly, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical, scientific and factory personnel.
12.    Responsible for ensuring that all aspects of a packaging system or process meet specified internal and external regulations including safety, quality and sanitation.
13.    Application of good hygienic design principals and applications.
14.    Work closely with the technologist, scientists and other specialists, responsible for the quality control of raw materials and finished products as well as engineers responsible for plant maintenance.
15.    Responsible for keeping current with equipment developments and packaging technologies applicable to frozen and chilled products and the food industry in general or other industries that may provide cross fertilization of new process developments into these manufacturing operations.
16.    Responsible for developing new technologies/packaging capabilities when not commercially available for specific project requirements.
17.    Optimize manufacturing performance through improvement of equipment and and its interface with packaging materials, products and processing systems.
18.    Maintain/update and catalog current knowledge and overviews of existing packaging systems and technologies relevant to our business.
19.    Work with satellite plants and co packers to apply effective processing methodology and travel to plants to provide technical assistance as needed.
20.    Must be able to communicate ideas and complex topics effectively to both the technical and non-technical members of the team and business.
  
Requirements:  JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):
'    Minimum of BS in engineering, preferable mechanical, or equivalent academic background in Food Engineering, Bioengineering, Agricultural Engineering.
'    A minimum of 8-10 years of related packaging equipment engineering and/or equipment development experience in the frozen and chilled pasta and related food industries with application experience in robotic handling and loading of materials and integration of systems.
'    Detailed knowledge and experience in materials, equipment and product interface and interaction.
'    Professional Engineer's license a plus but not a requirement.
'    PMP Certification is a plus.
'    Excellent team leadership skills.
'    Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills.
'    Excellent organizational skills.
'    Ability to travel up to 40 % worldwide.
'    Willing to relocate.
'    Good knowledge of basic, detailed, and practical engineering principles.
'    CAD experience and good computer knowledge.  
'    Must work independently but also have the ability and aspiration to be an accountable and open minded team player.
'    6 sigma certification a plus
