Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:


 


With general management direction, responsible for meeting the shift’s safety, budgetary, quality, inventory control, productivity and efficiency objectives while maintaining good employee relations in a lean environment.  Motivate team to achieve established performance targets.  Work with Business Unit and Plant Manager to develop employees and team.   Lead and implement continuous improvement projects. 


 


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:


 


  • Drive safety initiatives and ensure the safety of all employees through training, enforcement of safety rules and compliance with all AIPC policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage shift’s production and packaging activities to ensure efficiencies, customer service, quality and cost objectives are met. 

  • Lead operators with a “roll-up-your-sleeves” work ethic.

  • Develop team through coaching/counseling, effective communications and performance management.

  • Responsible for overseeing the manufacture of safe, quality and legal product.

  • Provide leadership, training and support on Lean initiatives.

  • Consistently enforce company policies and procedures.

  • Communicate key issues with management thoroughly and timely.  

  • Conduct shift meetings to ensure effective communications and problem solve issues.

  • Direct the troubleshooting and problem solving activities of night shift maintenance in minor/major repairs to ensure departmental efficiencies are met. 

  • Complete reports for production shortfalls, equipment problems, employee accidents, employee relations matters, etc. 

  • Evaluates shrink issues on shift and makes recommendations for improvement. 

  • Work closely with Human Resources in addressing personnel issues and maintaining all necessary records. 

 


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


 


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is generally in the 70 – 80 decibel range.  Temperatures will reach high levels in the work environment. 


 


 



SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:


 


  • Bachelor’s degree required (technical discipline preferred).

  • Ability to work 12 hour night shifts (approximately 6pm - 6am - which includes alternating weekends)

  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience in manufacturing environment. 

  • Minimum 3 years Lean manufacturing and/or other continuous improvement process experience required.   

  • Ability to lead with or without formal authority.

  • Proven record of excellence, results and process improvement.

  • Demonstrated competencies in the areas of judgment, decision making, problem solving and communications.   

  • Strong leadership-interpersonal skills are essential along with the level of communication skills (verbal and written) required to provide work direction and effectively interact with department employees as well as with all levels of management within the plant.  

  • Mechanical aptitude for identifying probable causes involved with the malfunctioning of equipment required. 

  • Mechanical skills.
