Operations Manager
I. Position Purpose
Reporting to the General Manager, this position provides strategic direction, oversight and management for the company. This includes production management, project managements, financial review and general management. This position is responsible for aligning the sales, production systems, and support of the other company functions with the Vision, Values and Strategic Objectives of this organization.
II. Position Responsibilities and Duties
Performing duties as directed by others to insure the following duties are managed accurately and timely:
Operational Management
- Manage and oversee all operation functions including milling, shipping, maintenance, project management, and lab operations
- Ensure proper staffing and training
- Oversight of company procurement for equipment & supplies
- Oversight of all plant projects and engineering
- Establish systems and process for plant performance measurement, inventories, product shipping
- Establish systems and practices to insure the company or any individual is not knowingly performing his or her duties unlawfully, unsafely, or in any manner which may negatively impact the environment
- Evaluate performance of direct reports
- Develop and maintain open communication and a team environment
Quality, Safety and Sanitation
- Ensure Good Manufacturing practices are in place & maintained
- Oversee the quality and safety committee
- Develop a training matrix that enhances quality and safety behaviors
- Manage the operation for “zero” lost time incidents
- Manage the operation for “zero” quality returns
- Manage so that daily operations & plant facility would qualify for a Superior AIB rating unannounced
- Oversee all regulatory compliance
- Ensure customer specifications and needs are achieved.
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Adhere to HACCP Plan.
- Maintain work area and sanitation level at an AIB Superior level unannounced
- Maintain a safe work environment.
General Management and Leadership
- Work with all stakeholders to insure the vision and values are being achieved.
- Ensure all regulatory compliance.
- Review operational and area budgets.
- Participate in team environment as part of senior staff
- Work to achieve the corporate short and long term goal and objectives.
- Foster the development and maintenance of the Integrated Management System
- Follow established Human Resources procedures.
- Ensure proper staffing and training within area.
- Evaluate the performance of subordinates.
- Create a team working environment.
- Develop key indicators to measure quality and productivity.
- Utilize the Integrated Management System.
- Administer Coaching and Counseling where needed.
Open Communications to be a team-player and do other tasks as necessary.
III. Essential Skills
This position is in an office environment, but requires significant time in the plant. A thorough understanding of the company Vision, Vales and Strategic Objectives is essential. Proven experience with food grade milling management is a key requisite. In addition, excellent oral and written communication skills, computer literacy, strong leadership skills, organizational skills and the ability to effectively work with and direct a team environment..
Education Level: BS in Engineering or Milling Science
Related Experience: 12 years Food Processing management experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
IV. Physical and Mental Requirements
This position requires physical and mental alertness, attentiveness and stamina for the length of an entire 8-12 hour work shift each day. Occasional to frequent lifting of 50-100 pounds, frequent changing from a seated to standing position and occasional to frequent stair climbing are all physical demands of this position. The position will require some activity outside of the office environment as needed.
