Job Description

Fast growing produce grower/shipper is looking for a highly competent controller to help the company continue its impressive growth. The company is small, but highly entrepreneurial and has aggressive growth plans for the next 5 years. We are looking for someone who has the ability and desire to be both a controller and business analyst. This individual should be comfortable working in an intimate, relaxed, and transparent environment where high performance is expected from everyone and the rewards of success are shared across the board.

Position Responsibilities Include

Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of monthly internal/external financial statements.

Establishing financial conditions by preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, cash flow, consolidated statements, and supporting schedules. Comparing actual results to budget projections, developing summaries and interpretations.

Accomplishing department objectives by working closely with employees, such as communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures.

Accomplishing accounting requirements by designing and maintaining accounting processes, including journal entries and general ledger, payroll, billing, collections, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

Supervising bank reconciliations and closing processes, supporting annual budget process; developing and maintaining forecasts and models; ensuring compliance with GAAP.

Meeting finance operational standards by: contributing information to strategic financial plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.

Assisting with preparation of quarterly and annual reports to the board of directors.

Perform financial and statistical analysis as well as market research for CFO to assist with strategic decision-making

Ability to analyze businesses on a granular level to determine profitability by product, customer, geography, etc.

Desired Minimum Qualifications Include

Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting and CPA preferred

Three years or more of senior accounting experience (at least 10 years of total accounting experience) in a business office setting with prior experience as Controller, Assistant Controller or Chief Accountant

Two years or more of cost accounting experience in a food processing/agricultural packaging or production/manufacturing operation

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial modeling

Prior experience and familiarity with Famous Software

Experience with composition of policy and procedure for internal control

Excellent verbal, written and telephone communication skills

Excellent leadership/team building skills

Professional, motivated, and a positive thinker

Natural tendency and desire to look for opportunities to improve the business
